Ever So Green on Pilgrim's Cottage...

Always something to do on Pilgrim's Cottage and Farm...
never seems to be enough hours in the day to do it all.

This morning...
I take my coffee down the stairs out on the cottage compound...
rather than sit with it in the verandah.

Would you care to join me? or...
as they used to say...
would you care to take a turn with me out in the garden?

Rounding the corner of the cottage...
we come to the side towards the banana orchard.

Looking up...
it's a beautiful morning...no rain.

In the back near the potager garden...
a few popcorn stalks are growing tall.

The banana trees are doing well.
This one waves it's broad outstretched leaves in welcome.

We have had a bumper crop of bananas this year...
some for market...some for us.

And...they are not done, yet.
The trees are now putting out baby suckers for early next year's crops.

Lemon balm seeds were planted a few months ago...
they are doing wonderfully...
and flowering.
The leaves are used for tea.

Easy to grow...citrusy to the taste.

Walking around to the other side of the cottage...
we come past the peacock flamboyant.

We have a papaya tree that is laying down on the job.
It fell over at one point during a weakness in the wet ground...
and now just lays there and will still bear fruit.

Walking out the garden gate from the back...
let's go on over to my husband's garden.

It sits just outside the cottage compound...
fenced from digging dogs.

Taking a peek over the fence...
there are more popcorn growing.

He has planted plenty tomtoes, cucumbers, watermelon, cabbages...
and other produce to fill the plates.

Backing up...
I'll take you up the rock garden to one of my favorite spots.

It's an easy climb...
just one rock at a time.

They take us up the hill to my favorite tree in my favorite spot.

This tree was almost chopped down...
and I begged to have it left up.
It was pruned to look nicer...
and it has 5 trunks to it, which gives it lots of character.

It's called a "Gloria Cedar"...
the goats love the leaves...and the bees take nectar from it's flowers...
flowers which slowly float to the ground over time...
covering the ground with pretty, yellow petals.

This is the view I enjoy...
the cocoa orchard sits beyond the potager...
and when the skies are clear of clouds...
one can see mountain peeks in the near distance.
We cannot see those mountains in these photos...the sun shone too brightly...
and the camera wouldn't pick them up.
Someday...I hope to get a good quality camera.
I do apologize for the poor picture quality.
It's very difficult to get a camera with photo quality on this island.

"I am like a green olive tree in the house of God:
I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever."
Psalms 52:8

May your day, or night be ever so green with the Lord's mercies.
