My husband finished the herb garden area for me in the back of the cottage...
right off the porch
now I can get more serious about getting herb plants in
he also put up a sink close to the shed for cleaning up purposes
it is great for washing and cleaning to avoid bringing in the dirt
the water comes from the water tank at the corner of the shed
we plan on adding a smaller tank for just the kitchen...
that will catch the rainwater
love the outside sink
it's where we rinse off the mangoes of their sap before bringing into the cottage
and we are still getting plenty mangoes
so now with the roofing over my herb garden...
I have started to put in a few plants
and the jamaican mint went in first
and I thought a birdcage (no caged birds, please)...
would be fun
thought I would try a couple of grape vines, too
there is plenty sunshine coming in
maybe they will do alright and I will train them to trail...
along underneath the roof
we shall see how that goes
since I planted these...
the vines have been growing like weeds and look healthy
one thing I learned is that...
it is best to wait until the dry season to hatch and raise chicks
although I have not lost any chicks due to rain and too much water...
it is very difficult for the mama hens to take the foraging for food
and with the drainage trenches and creek high with swift running water...
I get nervous watching the chicks crossing over the wooden bridges
they are so small and delicate...
the risk of them falling into ankle deep water is possible
and then...
oh dear...
we have a little pothound abandoned by his owner
he was left close to our homestead
sweet, friendly, young, healthy...
good with people and other animals
don't know why the owner didn't want him
we have our hands full already...
so we are looking for a good, forever home for him
