Hello, dear Readers.
I wanted to let you all know that my blog has been on hold due to...
camera (and computer) troubles
because I have no working camera...
and we need a new motherboard for the computer...
this blog will continue to stay on hold
I cannot say when posting will continue...
therefore until a decision is made concerning whether...
to hold onto the blog or jeanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732358856419035775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6739251787897083740.post-33518299898355143762016-05-12T12:52:00.001-04:002016-05-12T12:52:22.854-04:00My Valley is Green
Because we are getting some nice rains...
our little valley is coming into her new greens
it is bringing the promise, once again, of fruits on the trees
while this mango tree sits right outside our bedroom window and the fruit still green...
we have mango trees that already have ripened fruit...
and it is good to be eating mangoes again!
I will soon be making mango jeanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732358856419035775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6739251787897083740.post-21759958166193980902016-04-20T22:07:00.001-04:002016-04-20T22:07:39.250-04:00A Little of This and That

Feels like it's been some time since last posting...
but, the good excuse is...
we've been busy getting things done that needed doing
our driveway is now finished
we had the tiff packed down good and hard
concrete is not our style
we prefer the something softer

It seems I promised in an earlier post that you would...
have a tour of our cottage
so, if you are interested in what our little home looks like...
here is how we live in our cottage
you have seen the front and back and much of the yard on which it sits

We had lots of rain in recent weeks
and while it gives us cooler weather and growing gardens...
after lots of water and mud...
it was nice to see some sun again streaming through the breezeway
with this much rain...
I kept busy in the kitchen with foods growing on our homestead

Every morning...
the dogs and I take our walk down the road
when we get back to the homestead...
I can't resist visiting the rock gardens my husband made
with my second cup of coffee in hand...
and a rock as my seat...
it's time to enjoy the flowers and scenery all around us

I always wonder what people mean by the "simple life"
is life really simple?
lots of thoughts from various perspectives could be debated on this subject
in any case...
I can tell you that...
life on Pilgrim's Farm and Cottage is quiet for the most part...
but, not always simple
(our bean bushes are flowering)
while we live without some amenities of the modern world.jeanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732358856419035775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6739251787897083740.post-90017001072828957062015-11-16T11:18:00.001-04:002015-11-16T11:21:01.084-04:00It's Been That Busy (and rainy)

The days here have been sunny and warm
my husband has been busy planting tomato...
pepper, eggplant, cucumber, ochra...
more corn and watermelons
I planted more butternut squash which are doing well
somewhere out there on the homestead...
a hen has been laying her eggs where I couldn't find them

I must admit to you, dear Readers...
that I often have trouble giving you interesting posts to read
because we are often working at growing food...
that seems to be the bulk of our activities on the new homestead
we have been busy with sowing and planting...
and are excited to see results coming along quite nicely
my husband planted peas among the corn as well

Last week, the Lord sent what could only be called...
a torrential rain
we woke up to inclement weather with the passing of a tropical wave
and we were so glad we had a few ditches dug around to catch the rain runoff...
or we may have seen much water creeping up to our door
being surrounded by mountains while we live in a valley...
practically makes it quite imperative to dig jeanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732358856419035775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6739251787897083740.post-18599184901255091192015-07-25T09:12:00.000-04:002015-07-25T09:15:17.048-04:00Things We're Doing
A new homestead takes up a lot of time
we don't mind as the Lord tells us to occupy until He returns
and so, we do
we still have coffee beans from the last homestead's coffee trees
and I have been roasting and grinding them as we use them
we enjoy our own coffee beans immensely
and at the risk of sounding biased...
they taste better than coffee beans from the store jeanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732358856419035775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6739251787897083740.post-55230325118827174282015-07-06T11:32:00.002-04:002015-07-06T11:32:55.290-04:00Two Came
That little front loading washer came
and now I can do my laundry once again by machine
we do run it by solar power as that is the only electrical power we have
and I do like the way the washer works for me
it sits just outside the kitchen door under the covered herb garden
should I ever need another machine in the future...
I may not want to go back to a top loader...

Still settling in and working on getting things in place around the homestead
my husband has been working on putting up the herb garden courtyard...
while I have been washing laundry by hand...
as we are waiting on our washing machine coming in soon
the one we had did not have the right voltage range for solar power...
so we had to look into one with a range of 220 - 240 volts

So much has happened in the last month of May...
it's hard to know where to begin
maybe I could begin with our yearling calf
what a gentle, sweet bull he was
(unlike our first calf bull who was very ornery)
he never gave trouble and often let people pet him
I called him "little bull"
a few days after we moved to the new homestead...
a rabid mongoose came into the jeanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732358856419035775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6739251787897083740.post-43575789819604693172015-05-26T12:39:00.003-04:002015-05-26T12:39:51.733-04:00Coming Back Soon!
Due to internet circumstances beyond my control...
I have not been online
however, you have not been forgotten, dear Readers...
and I hope to be back on soon...
with updates and photos...
hopefully, the Lord willing, next week
May your day or night be found in God's grace

We may just make move in day before the end of the month
this is what the back of the cottage looks like thus far
once we are in...
the herb garden will be started outside the back...
and will be a little courtyard in itself with a roof to let the sun shine through...
but keep us dry if we are in the herb garden
I realize it is hard to picture it right now...
but in time, you jeanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732358856419035775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6739251787897083740.post-12393386737085031342015-04-09T11:28:00.000-04:002015-04-16T09:49:04.316-04:00Gettin' Close, I Think
Well, we got the cows over to the new homestead
our neighbor used his truck to help us get them over there
the cows were a bit bewildered by the change in scenery...
but, from what I understand...
they gave no trouble getting up on the truck and doing what they needed to
that's pretty good considering they never had that experience before
I think the secret is taming them from a jeanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732358856419035775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6739251787897083740.post-50980440337634785912015-03-24T12:35:00.000-04:002015-03-24T12:35:12.525-04:00Homestead Busy
Life on the homestead just keeps going and keeping us busy

but, she is slowing down in her production
it's about time to give her a date with the buck, Phillip

about a quart was what she gave this time
but, still good and sweet
