Island Cottage from Time Past...

Island cottage with a little mystery

I wouldn't mind taking this cottage and making it new, again
Wonder who lived there and how they lived

May your day, or night be well.

Cottage in White...

with a little green
a little of the outside, inside

Have a great day, or night.

Cottagey Improvising...

Or...
 unconventional imagination in the
"necessity is the mother of invention" thinking

I needed a kitchen towel hook in my kitchen...
all I had were a few of those "command" sticky hooks...
the ones that come with the handy back to "un"stick the hook when no longer wanted without damaging walls

You see what I mean with the towel hanging by it?
It doesn't work...
kept falling...
and I don't care for dirty kitchen towels...
and didn't care for the look, either

Took a bottle cork out of my drawer and looked at it...
until I figured out how to make it work for me...
and put a little hole in one end...
and topped my hook off with it

The next step was taking a cotton twine and wrapping it around one corner of the towel...
not too tightly so that it would fit over the hook just snugly...
doesn't it look like they are giving each other a happy hug?

Unconventional...
but, it works and I like the look.
the towel stays in place and I just remove the twine and put it around the next clean towel to go up

I could sew on a little tab that would slide over the cork and hook
but, why...?

Please have a wonderful day, or night.

No Snow Here ~ But...

what we have, may I share...?

what we do have, is lots of rain...

lots of greens...

beautiful greens...and cooler weather...
yes, we do have cooler weather...
as cool as the tropics can get at this time of year

when on walks with my dogs...
I bring back sprigs, twigs, leaves, flowers, dead branches...
and a few pliable vines

and put together whatever comes together easy enough

not only is God's nature beautiful...
it also comes free

I love to take my time and twirl the vines around the items from the walk...very relaxing

then, hang them wherever they will look nice...
reminding me often when looking at them...
how gracious my Father in heaven is

wherever you are, whether in snow, rain, or sun...
may the Lord show grace to you today

Kitchen Completion - Almost...

Just need to add the dishes and such...

I rather like my stove...
it's petite
it's got a glass top to lift up which was unexpected...
it will help keep the drafts through the window away...
so I won't have to keep closing the slats...
we have no glass in our windows, just screens.
my refrigerator is petite, too...
we don't need anything big...
bigger wouldn't fit in this tiny cottage anyway

and, finally got things figured out on the side table...
 I think...
knowing me...things will probably get moved around still

and, the curtain for the toilet room...
is up

I fringed the bottom instead of hemming the curtain...
a sewer's cheat

saved the monies using what fabrics I had stashed away

The ugly tension rod is temporary...
my sweetie will make me a bamboo rod instead
 to hang the curtain...
and there you get a peek inside

May your day or night be graced in the Lord...

The Process of a Cottage Home...

It's definitely a process...

deciding where things should go...
or where best it looks...
and trying at the same time to make it all practical.
I like practical...
if something doesn't work or serve a purpose, it goes.
Being a homebody woman...
I like it all to look nice, too.
Fiddling with the things you see in the photos, the side table definitely needs a table cloth to finish it better...
and a couple of old books under the lamp to bring it up a little taller.

I wish you all a good day, or night

Cottage Life...

A few old books...
a homemade twig wreath

just some of the sweet things that make a cottage cozy

May your day or night be cozy in the grace of God.

Sew Busy ~ with Cottage Curtains...

One of the best ways for me to save monies...

is to make my own curtains for the home

what makes diy curtains even better...
is getting to choose one's fabrics and colors to suit one's taste
(I like using 100% cotton)

I've seen nice curtains in stores...
but, gotta tell you..
most aren't what I'm looking for

if it's the right color, it's the wrong size...
if it's the right size, it's the wrong style...
you get what I mean?

although no sewing expert by any means...
I do like to sew, so...
why not do it myself and have fun with it?

my first curtain for the cottage, shown above..
is for the toilet room

I'm one of those blessed wives who has a grand husband..
who likes that I make the home just a bit feminine
he says...
"I like feeling that a woman lives here."

You'll get to see it hung up in the near future

Do have "sew" pleasant a day or night

The Making of a Cottage ~ part 5...

It was a rainy day...all day on Saturday
(but it was absolutely lovely...we do like an all day rain from time to time)
It was so rainy...we couldn't get out of the car...
too wet, too muddy
The outside around the cottage needs finishing touches
I can happily say, though...
the cottage itself is finished
The appliances are coming this week
and the potager garden needs laying out with the design I worked on
By December, the Lord willing, we should be transfering items from our current home to the cottage

*****
I do hope you have a lovely day, or night

Cottage in the Making, Part 4...

It's coming together...

The workers are putting in the last details
The debris needs to be cleaned up, and the land graded
Can you find my doggie? She's there...looking at us
Click on the photo for a better view

The pillars still need smoothing and painting

The floors and stairs need staining
The door on the left leads into the laundry & sewing room
On the right is an extra bedroom with it's own bath

The windows on each side of the front door are in

A simple kitchen...no more than is needed for a simple life
We are still waiting for the completion and arrival of our
free standing island counter/table

The openings above the bedroom door (on the right)
will have some kind of detail to cover/decorate them...
just haven't made up my mind, yet
We want good air flow through the cottage
No air conditioner in this home...never did like them

The pantry cupboard

Master closets (doorway inbetween to bath)
As for furniture...
my husband and I will make some ourselves...
and others by local carpentars
Basic pieces is all we need

Have a good day, or night.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

I wavered between painting this mirror or leaving it as is

it was found tucked away in the corner of an antique shop

loving the details and needing a mirror for the bath cinched the sale

I like the natural look of wood...
it has a warmth to it

someday, I may make up my mind which way to go with it

May your day or night be blessed in God's grace.
