Things We're Doing

A new homestead takes up a lot of time

we don't mind as the Lord tells us to occupy until He returns

and so, we do

we still have coffee beans from the last homestead's coffee trees

and I have been roasting and grinding them as we use them
we enjoy our own coffee beans immensely
and at the risk of sounding biased...
they taste better than coffee beans from the store shelves

of course, while the hens keep marching around the new homestead...
looking and scratching for their meals...

my husband has been planting more trees such as bananas...
and coffee trees

one can never have too many of these

and would you believe it?
the cherry trees are already bearing!

we've been eating them right off the trees

we are almost finished with the roofing of the herb garden...
and have started putting up the fence around it to let the chickens know...
it is off limits to yard fowl

we got ourselves a Saamen milk goat
she is a couple years old and is giving milk still after her last kidding
the former owner bred her and hopefully she took

in the mornings when I take the dogs for their walk...
we go down to the bridge construction to see how it is coming along

well, it is coming along at a snail pace but...
coming

after checking out the bridge progress...
we head back up the road towards home to check out the mango trees

a man who owns the property next to ours has mango groves...
that he no longer harvests and lets others freely take from them

with all those delicious mangoes falling...
I really can't let them go to waste

I pick up most from the ground that are in good condition
we not only eat them...
but also give them to our goats and cow

Ms. Ruthie Moo Moo found her way to the mango trees the other morning...
and didn't think to leave me any to pick up

that's okay...
she's been a great cow with super good milk
she deserves the treat

May your day or night find the grace of the Lord.

Two Came

That little front loading washer came

and now I can do my laundry once again by machine
we do run it by solar power as that is the only electrical power we have

and I do like the way the washer works for me
it sits just outside the kitchen door under the covered herb garden

should I ever need another machine in the future...
I may not want to go back to a top loader...
with agitators that...heh... agitate me
seems washer agitators can get into trouble over time

in any case, I am glad for some help with the laundry

speaking of which...
half of the roofing is on
hopefully soon, we will get that finished in the not too distant future

we had a visitor who has stayed thus far

a jersey cow that came to see our Ms. Ruthie Moo Moo
they seem to get along well
she belongs to someone who had her tethered on the land next to ours
she broke the tether and came on over

the funny thing is...
we have been looking for a jersey cow for a while
they are rare here on this island and those who have them...
don't care to sell them

so, it very interesting to me that this one shows up...
and...
I would dearly love to have this pretty little cow
she seems gentle and is very quiet
she is also going to have a calf soon for the first time

my husband is inquiring if the owner would like to sell her to us
in the meantime, we are letting her stick around as the owner...
hasn't seemed interested in picking her up, yet

we will see what the Lord will do

my husband is in the center bottom of the photo below
that's how tall and big many trees are around here

he's been busy planting more banana trees
we like lots because...
we eat, sell and use the fruit as treats for the farm animals
so, the more bananas, the better

my husband is checking out the jersey cow that came across to our land

carefully, at first, as he doesn't know the cow at this point
she checked him out, too...
and they both gave each other a thumbs up

a local carpenter made our table and chairs from white cedar

because the wood grain was so lovely...
we didn't have the heart to cover it with paint
so, the carpenter varnished it clear
and I will make the cushions for the chairs

my one sweet little chick is growing nicely...
and I'm happy to report...
she is definitely a she
the chick looks just like her mama

and I had to snap a photo of the moon the other night...
just because it looked so pretty behind the tree branches...
in the early light of dawn

May your day or night find blessings of grace from the Lord.
