Close Call and King Nebuchadnezzar...
During the night, a tree branch fell and struck the corner of our newest beehive
it should have fallen right on top from where the branch broke...
but, it didn't
while we may call near perils or accidents, close calls...
there is no such thing with our God
in His might and power, the Lord's sovereignty reigns over all things
whether it be in incidents, accidents, unexpected events and even election outcomes...
the Lord God is ruling over all and bringing to pass all His good purposes...
for it is true...
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing:
and He doeth according to His will in the army of heaven,
and among the inhabitants of the earth:
and none can stay His hand, or say unto Him,
What doest Thou?
Daniel 4:35
and why should we worry over what is established by the Lord?
as the Lord said unto king Nebuchadnezzar...
that king of Babylon who thought he alone was ruler...
This is the interpretation, O king,
and this is the decree of the most High,
which is come upon my lord the king:
That they shall drive thee from men,
and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field,
and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen,
and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven,
and seven times shall pass over thee,
till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men,
and giveth it to whomsoever He will.
And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots;
thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee,
after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

Sugar Apple, Instead...

the breadnut fruit was not ready to be picked this morning...
but, my husband says, "soon"
I need more photos to show you better about the fruit...
and the post will be coming
please bear with me, and today, I'll show you our sugar apple, aka sweetsop
our sugar apple tree has grown to about 10 feet and may grow bigger
they tend to grow to about 20 feet in warm climates

please bear with me, and today, I'll show you our sugar apple, aka sweetsop
our sugar apple tree has grown to about 10 feet and may grow bigger
they tend to grow to about 20 feet in warm climates
(I realize it's hard to see the tree with all the green - sorry about that)
already, though, our tree at less than two years from planting, has produced
the fruit in this photo is still green
the fruit grows with sections and when the fruit is ripe enough to pick...
the sections will be loose, as you can see in the photo below...
and the fruit will have a green yellow color
(unless it is the red colored variety)
the sections are easy to pull apart with the fingers...
which means, the hands are all that's needed to prepare the fruit for eating
full of nutrients, it is one fruit that has protein in it...
as well as high in vitamin C - 151%, which gives a whole day's worth of it
other nutrients are iron, B6, and fiber
inside each section of the fruit is a seed
this seed should not be eaten as it can make one sick
the seeds are easily taken out and I usually just pop them out with my fingers
the flesh is creamy, sweet and has a taste between a pear and coconut
it's a great fruit for using in smoothies and making ice-cream
we love eating it as is, best of all
if you live in a warm climate without freezes or cold snaps...
you could probably grow this tree
it grows relatively fast and will start producing within a year of planting
(a little longer if started from seed)

A Morning Chore...
In the early morning before the sun comes over the mountain...
the chickens call to me to come down and open their coop door
after I have obliged them, the coop gets a quick cleaning for the next evening roosting ritual
maybe the chickens don't care but, I like them to have a clean, healthy coop
every couple of weeks after the lawn has been mowed...
the ground flooring in the coop gets a clean rake up...
and all the old grass and chicken manure get put into the compost for the garden beds
our farm helper puts all the new grass cuttings in a pile and I fill the bucket up...
and take it into the coop to cover the floor and refill the nest boxes
fresh grass cutting smells awful nice and gives a good feeling to the coop, once again
the chickens usually come running when they see me throwing the grass to the floor...
after all, there just might be some protein goodies hiding in all that grass
it's a morning homestead chore the Lord has blessed me with, and I enjoy

Yellow Flames of Brightness...
At this time of year, the yellow flamboyant trees burst into show
they are everywhere on the mountains where we walk the dogs along our farm road
flamboyant, they are
bright, splashy, showy, flames of yellow
here on this little caribbean island, they are called "all saints tree" for the time of year they bloom
walking under them is like walking through bursts of golden sunshine
back at the cottage...
the coffee percolator is promising a perk up
while the bread nuts are simmering in salted water
the bread nuts come from the seeded breadfruit
next week, Wednesday, I'll tell you more about it and how we eat it
and all the saints of God can bask in the brightness of their Saviour...
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake...
in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son,
whom He hath appointed heir of all things,
by whom also He made the worlds;
Who being the brightness of His glory,
and the express image of His person,
and upholding all things by the word of His power,
