When Day Ends...

and evening falls...
the kitchen is cleaned up from suppertime...
and I wander outside

making sure the chickens are safely tucked inside the coop before securing their door

and kicking a few balls across the yard for the dogs to chase...
while the last glow of the sunset is fading into a velvet darkness...
and twilight quietly tiptoes in

and, it is time to call on the quiet of the evening...
as the tree frogs and crickets begin to sing to one another
through the curtain of the night

so now, the promise of a warm shower begins to slowly call to me...
after a day of work and duties finished

and once we two have shared some hot cocoa tea...
and put in a little reading...
the lull of dreamy sleep beckons from the comfort of bed

If the Lord is willing...
I shall be back after the new year has started
and I will post on why we homestead

May the Lord shine His grace on you and turn your eyes towards Him.

A Tropical Winter...

Now, I realize that while many are getting snow
up there in the northern part of the world...

there is no such cold, white delight here on this tropical island

instead of shoveling snow or driving on icy roads...
I am seeding my pots for the "concrete" garden...
while I listen to the myriads of song birds filling the air

we do experience a cooling at this time of year in the caribbean...
and the breezes whisper through the banana trees and throughout the cottage...
while softly whistling in the bamboo beyond the gardens

and I have my usual anole lizard friend...
keeping me company with a curious eye on my putterings

I now have some seeds sowed in my pots...
and we shall see what the Lord is pleased to grow from them
perhaps, if He please,
He will also give the increase

May your day, or night be graced with God's blessings.

Over the Height of Stars...

Is not God in the height of heaven?

and behold the height of the stars,

how high they are!

Job 22:12

A Gift in the Grass...

Do you see it?
Farina, our milk goat is looking towards the spot

they are not rabbits...
no, they are...

Farina's sweet pink and white tiny surprises...

ah yes...
there they are!
While I miscalculated her timing (I'm good at that)...
Farina had it right

She gave us twin GIRLS!
that is the icing she put on their birth day cake...
more milking goats

do you think they are cute enough?
we sure do
we missed out on the whole thing

by the time we discovered the twins...
they were dry and tottering on their cute, tiny hooves

yeah, Farina, what a sweet surprise
you did good

May the Lord grace your day, or night

Goat Keeping...

Keeping goats has it's benefits...
but, it's also work

my husband takes care of the husbandry side of the farm : )

he makes sure to visit them every day

he'll even dance a jig for them...
well, not really...
he was just high stepping the grass

our milker, Farina, is in the process of growing a kid, maybe two...
we should see the results in about two months more

heading back to the farm after the goat visiting

I went with him on this visit and stopped to admire and snap shots
of my neighbor's roses

I love the rosebud best

May your day, or night be graced in the Lord.

Nothing Particular in this Morning...

Big Red cock-a-doodled me out of bed this morning...
I suppose he wanted me to see him watching over my potager

while I do my morning thing of puttering around the cottage...

and finding hibiscus glowing in the morning sun

certainly, nothing to complain of

May the Lord grace your day, or night.

Whatsoever He Pleased...

But, our God is in the heavens:
He hath done whatsoever He hath pleased.
Psalms 115:3

...blessed be the name of God for ever and ever:
for wisdom and might are His:
and He changeth the times and the seasons:
He removeth kings, and setteth up kings:
He giveth wisdom unto the wise,
and knowledge to them that know understanding:
He revealeth the deep and secret things:
He knoweth what is in the darkness,
and the light dwelleth with Him.
Daniel 2:20-22
Amen!

Making a Garden on Concrete...

Outside of the potager garden...
is our 4,000 gallon water tank

A real sore eye...
to say the least
and it would have to be alongside my kitchen garden

well...
after throwing scowling glances at it for almost a year...
it's time to put on a happy face

the plan is...
I will be growing a container garden on top...
both the higher tank part and the shorter water pump storage piece

as you can see below...
I've sowed some seeds in planters and many more to come

then, I will either paint this eyesore or grow a vine along the walls of it
and add some touches...
and perhaps, I may pull something off to fool anyone walking by...
that it really is a garden

Have a beautiful day, or night.

Just Because...

she was there...

and stole my camera's focus

May God grace your day, or night.

While We Looked Away...

and while this first chickie was growing...

and growing we hope into an egg laying hen...

Penny, Big Red's hen number two...
was sitting on an egg
just one

but, looked what hatched out while we weren't looking

we knew Penny was brooding on her egg but...
we got a tiny chick sooner than our calculations

Mama Penny presents our second chick bred on Pilgrim's farm

yeah, Mama Penny...
you did good and baby is doing fine

until we know for sure, it's a "she"
more eggs...please?

May you have a fine day, or night.

Finding Comfort in Discomfort...

God never promised a rose garden to those who belong to Him
on the contrary...
we were promised trials and tribulations

In Luke 22, Jesus told Simon Peter that Satan desired to sift him as wheat
but, instead of refraining the devil from wreaking havoc on Peter...
Jesus told Peter, He would pray for him...
that his faith would not fail

wow...oh, wow
God Himself praying for His own people
the Lord Jesus prayed in John 17 for His people, the sheep of His pasture
what a wonder that is

it is a good thing to have our God pray for us
how would we be able to get through the day if He wasn't there to uphold us?

this photo below depicts how I am often tempted to feel when confronted with the uncomfortableness of life here in this present world

(I do not know who the photo belongs to but, there is a name in the bottom right hand corner...
which I couldn't make out
if anyone knows who this photo belongs to, I'd like to give credit to that person)

I see in these wolves a discomfort

it is a picture to me of how the discomfort in this sin-filled world makes me feel

but, there is comfort in this...
because I know that God is in control, I can joyfully read in Psalms 23:4...

...I will fear no evil:
for Thou art with me;
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

when God sends discomfort my way...
Psalms 94:12,13 becomes a comfort

Blessed is the man whom Thou chasteneth, O Lord,
and teachest him out of Thy law;
that Thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity,
until the pit be digged for the wicked.

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of mercies,
and the God of all comfort;
Who comforteth us in all our tribulation,
that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble,
by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us,
so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
2 Corinthians 1:3-5

in my discomfort I can truly say...

The Lord is my Rock;
and my Fortress,
and my Deliverer;
my God, my Strength,
in Whom I will trust;
my Buckler, and the Horn of my salvation,
and my High Tower.
Psalms 18:2,3

May your day, or night have comfort in the Lord

A Favorite Nook...

two old books...

and something from the sea

May your day, or night go well

Just Before it Rained...

I was out in my potager...
turning over the soil in a bed already harvested of beans and cabbages

Foxie girl, thought to help, or hinder

it will sit and wait for a couple of weeks while I renew it with organic compost...
and then, will be replanted with some lettuce greens

in the meanwhile...
our newest chick has been growing
she has a tail and feathered wings...
looking more like mama everyday

we are truly hoping this is a "she" and not a "he"
more eggs, please

I checked on the coffee trees...
and they are blooming
the flowers have a fragrance very close to gardenia...
heavenly

some have already transformed into coffee beans...
we didn't expect it to happen this soon...
but, that's fine
it just means...
our own organic coffee all the more sooner

and then...
there is my strawberry plant my husband surprised me with

I planted it in a unused carry bin

this little creature gave me audience for a while
funny how one can get used to such creatures over time

and then, the rain poured

until the next post...
if the Lord is willing

While the earth remaineth,
seedtime and harvest,
and cold and heat,
and summer and winter,
and day and night shall not cease.
Genesis 8:22

No need to worry about "global warming"

May the Lord grace your day, or night

Watching God Feed the Birds...

Watching birds don't tire me...

I caught this tiny finch busy...
at her lunch

she watched me, watching her

these tiny weed flowers are what she lunched on

see how she is picking off the petals?

until no petal is left on the tiny flower

she lunched in my rock garden
and when she had finished plucking the last tiny petal
she hopped onto a higher rock
gave me one last look
and was gone in a flash

God does not forget His little birds

May you have a good day, or night.
