In That Day...

"And in that day thou shalt say,
O Lord, I will praise Thee:
though Thou wast angry with me,
Thine anger is turned away,
and Thou comfortedst me.
Behold, God is my salvation;
I will trust, and not be afraid:
for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song;
He also is become my Salvation.
Sing unto the Lord;
for He hath done excellent things:
this is known in all the earth."
Isaiah 12:1,2,5

Rain is no Excuse...

When the rain falls...
it is no excuse for me to idle
It does bring the mud around until the grass grows...
there will be a roof over the stairs leading from the main house to the ground floor in the near future...
my husband promised (I am holding him to that)

The rain doesn't hold me back from getting the inside chores done...
or doing some sewing

An apron was finished...
and the cottage bedroom curtains hung up

The Lord God sends the rains as well as the sunshine...
and the sun was starting to shine as the curtains were hung up

May your day, or night be most pleasant

It's All in the Cottage Look...

The bath linen "closet"
a little cubby of a place...

This is quite sufficient for the towels and washrags...
a small laundry basket on top...
a weighing scale...
and a wooden peg holder for nightgowns

These small details smack of cottage living...
I have no need for more

Wire and hooks are all that's needed for hanging the curtain...
to hide and protect the linen (although, sometimes, I like to see linen)
you can see the cottagey look here...
and a non-fuss job to make it look like the cottage has been around for a lot longer

using materials that are available locally helps...
when a wood cottage is built here on this island...
fine-finishing is not important

I love to hang my own hand sewn night frock here...
a handy spot for such things

May your day or night be sweet in God's grace.

It's a Corny Day...

I do love corn still on it's cob...
fresh picked off the stalk...
and eaten raw right out of it's husk
We've got corn ready for harvesting...
and you can bet, I'll be taking some for ourselves...
before they get to market

With a corn field right out our side yard...
it just takes a few steps down the hill...
for these real beauties

Don't you wish you had hair like that...?
and see the one below...?
my baby picture shows me with hair like that!
my Mom said she could never do anything with it
I still can't do anything with my hair :(

You can see the cottage from the corn field...

Foxie and I kept going down the field...
picking...
and then, got sidetracked

the goat...
our farmhand's goat who enjoys the jungle below our farm...
well...she sure likes corn on the cob, too...
so, I gladly fed her a couple

And, still being sidetracked from corn picking...
We took my rock path into the cacao grove

and, came upon our Ms. MooMoo...
who gave Foxie a suspicious glare...
and me a curious look (I'll take the curious look over the glare)

Heading back to the corn field...
we stopped by the bee hive...
it was looking busy with bees...
so we kept our distance

I love this spot below...
where a grove of trees give an umbrella of shade

I picked a couple leaves for tea...
and took the corn up to the cottage

And, when I pulled the husks from the corn...
oh my! I just couldn't wait...
to sink my teeth into it
Sweet, tender and juicy...
just like it promised!
How I wish to share it with you...
it's always more fun when sharing with others

May you have a wonderful day, or night  Corn

A Glass of Sorrel...to You...

If you have no idea what sorrel is...
let me tell you a little about this delightful plant

it is a species of hibiscus (sabdariffa) also known as roselle

This is what the plant looks like...
it's a bush that grows gorgeous flowers that first start pink...
soft and silky to the feel;

and slowly, in the warm sunshine...

become these wonderful calyxes with a waxy look and feel...

with tiny soft, prickly spines on their crown

We harvest them at their peak...
cut out the inside seed from each fruit pod...
and put them out in the sun to dry for a week or more.
the seeds are saved for future crops

Once they are properly dried...
they look like this below.

We then heat a big pot of water...
pour over the sorrel fruit to steep overnight...
with some cloves and cinnamon sticks;

giving us this beautiful cranberry pink...
and tastes like something with cranberry, apple...
and a hint of cherry in it.

Our favorite way of sweetening it...
is with raw sugar cane juice, squeezed fresh.

I'd like to present a glass of sorrel to all my followers...
to all those who visit...
and to all those who leave comments.
If you do all three, here's a triple glass to you!
Thank you so much for your visits.

May your day, or night, be filled with sweetness of the Lord.

The Beginning of a Potager Garden...

It's just the beginning...
the hopes of a potager garden.
First thing is first...
the weeds must go.

That water tank will be camaflouged...
with tall plants surrounding it.
I do dislike concrete;
and this one sits at the back of my future garden.

In the meantime...
it takes a bit of manpower and determination
to get those weeds out of the ground.

These are boulders, not rocks...
boulders as in BIG...
bigger, some of them, than me.
Some of the herbs will sit nicely in between these rocks.

Starting with a mint plant that will be put into the dirt there...
to hopefully creep it's way along the rocks...
and giving plenty of mint leaves for tea and such.

And, weeding among the boulders...
a delightful discovery was made!
Ferns!! I love ferns!

Nestled among those huge boulders...
they came along quite naturally...
without help from mankind.
Sent from the hand of God...
they are indeed keepers.

May delights come your way this day, or night   Flowers

Dog Gone It...!

The internet, that is...
We are in the process of waiting for consistant
internet connection

Since moving, internet has been lost...

so, we'll be back when possible
In the meantime...
have a great day or night!

Slow Living in Pilgrim's Cottage...

After taking the cocoa to the agricultural ministry for sale this morning...
I'm ready to get settled into the cottage
but, putting things away quickly enough is a little harder than it may seem

while some things still sit on the floor...
at least, I have the table and a couple of chairs
set up in the veranda

we had our first coffee here during a break from work

my kitchen island now sits where it should
later, I will give a more finished look to the back

this is where my pots, pans and bakeware will go
for easy access
a local man on the island made this for me

I asked that the island top be left as raw wood...
so that I could oil it down with walnut oil
the wood is white cedar

my husband is making the computer desk with
some shelving for books
it's has a ways to go, yet

my few "fine" china and such are put away in the cupboard

after putting some things away into
their permanent homes...
I went out on the farm and gathered some young tree leaves

these are medicinal leaves that I make into tea...
it helps keep the immune system going
the name of the tree is bacano

I did some weeding in the corn field to keep the ground around the stalks clean - that's a job and a half

with the long, busy day...
I can hear my bed calling to me

Thank you for visiting!
Please do have a good night, or day
