A Garden Day...

3 days a week are my garden days...

Monday, Wednesday, Friday

weeding...tilling...seeding...planting...watering...harvesting

even on this earthly "paradise"...

if you want to eat, you have to work

some herbs are sown in the potager...

others are grown in pots

lemon balm and oregano

I've got a plant in below photo that is supposed to be some kind of mint...

does anyone recognize it?

because I sure don't

the sunflower seeds are up...here's hoping

my lettuce always seem to do nicely...

no matter what kind

 the one below is romaine

we are not about to run out of tomatoes real soon...

more yellow cherries out of the potager...

these tomatoes for enough today 

our closed petal hibiscus are dropping as new ones come out...

I can pick them up by buckets...

Nothing Better....

Time flies...

especially when one is busy.

Welcome back to Pilgrim's Cottage.

With all the rains the last few days...

the ckicken coop has been slow in getting up.

But, today...

it does look like it will be finished.

I love white flowers...and pink ones.

The guava trees are blooming their beautiful white flowers that you see in above photo.

The plant in below photo is also blooming but,

honestly...I just cannot remember the name of this tree.

Now, the next ones below are the cotton plants blooming...

what will come of them, I can't say as yet...

that remains to be seen.

In the meantime...

the cotton flower above and below are the same one...

and the same one below...

the same exact flower.

I was pleasantly surprised to see how this gorgeous bloom turns from white to pink.

It first turns a pale pink as the petals start to fold in...

Then, it becomes an even darker pink over time...

I get two in one!

White and pink blooms!

Pink...the Lord must have thought of us women when He created pink...

and pink flowers, to boot!...

do you think?

After I tore myself away from staring at my white and pink blooms...

it was time to do some work in the garden.

Foxie sat on the water tank and watched.

No dogs allowed inside my potager.

My cucumber patch is doing wonderfully....

I staked a tepee trellis for the cucumber vines...

with extra branches at the top for the doves to sit on.

While our honey bees were busy among the cucumber flowers...

I admired some of the cucumbers growing...

they do look rather gorgeous.

If you look behind the front cucumber in the photo below and to the left...

Well...I picked it.

That one is for supper tonight.

Yea..the doves do like my garden, too.

Those branches come in handy as a "look-out".



One more bloom to show from my flowering vine that is growing along my potager fence.

"There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink,

and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour.

This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God."

Ecclesiastes 2:24

Yes, indeed.

Whatsoever He Pleased...

Good morning or day or evening...

wherever you may be.

Little Orphan Annie and her sidekick, Macho Kid (on the right)...

enjoying frisky moments in the field.

I checked on the goats and moved some to other pasture.

As you can see below...

one mama goat is watching me, looking for a treat.

She forgot she already had some.

We have new banana trees coming up...

 I love the fields when they are full of trees.

Watching my goats is a relaxing time...

but, the potager garden needs looking after, too.

So, mama goat turns to eat and I go on my way.

I have a little garden girl in the potager garden who sits and...

 well, sits.

She doesn't do a thing except look nice around my herbs.

After a soft rain, she looks like she's been crying.

But, I can assure you...

she has not been crying.

She is a reminder to me to be content and quiet...

and reminds me that...

"...in whatsoever state I am, to be content"

Phillipians 4:11

For I know...

"Whatsoever the Lord pleased, that did He in heaven, and in earth,

in the seas, and all deep places"

Psalm 135:6

It is a great comfort to know that...

"...our God is in the heavens:

He hath done whatsoever He hath pleased"

Psalm 115:3

My Lord is perfectly sovereign in every way...

and can only do that which is perfect.

Blessed be the Lord.

May the Lord Jesus Christ be your sovereign contentment.

Just Part of a Farm & Cottage Day's Work...

I love having animals...

they make for a more interesting life...

While I hung the laundry...

this big guy here below (90 pounds of him)...

managed to jump a 5 foot gate to the short crop area...

in other words...

he's on the wrong side of the fence!

That's my Shadow...

always looking for something interesting to do...

but, trampling on the new short crops ought not to be one of them...

he changed his mind, though and hugged the fence to get back inside the cottage compound...

so, it wasn't hard to coax him back through.

As for my potager garden...

my design for it is finished...

and the guys will get to work on it shortly...

after they cut down the bamboo for the enclosement...

it's that 90 pound dog...

who seems to like digging and laying on newly turned soil.

I am determined my garden will stay nice and pretty...

with both dogs outside of it.

By the way...

that is sugar cane growing, if you look past your's truly in the photo above...

all part of growing as much of our own food as possible.

The Beginning of a Potager Garden...

It's just the beginning...

the hopes of a potager garden.

First thing is first...

the weeds must go.

That water tank will be camaflouged...

with tall plants surrounding it.

I do dislike concrete;

and this one sits at the back of my future garden.

In the meantime...

it takes a bit of manpower and determination

to get those weeds out of the ground.

These are boulders, not rocks...

boulders as in BIG...

bigger, some of them, than me.

Some of the herbs will sit nicely in between these rocks.

Starting with a mint plant that will be put into the dirt there...

to hopefully creep it's way along the rocks...

and giving plenty of mint leaves for tea and such.

And, weeding among the boulders...

a delightful discovery was made!

Ferns!! I love ferns!

Nestled among those huge boulders...

they came along quite naturally...

without help from mankind.

Sent from the hand of God...

they are indeed keepers.

The Making of a Cottage ~ part 5...

It was a rainy day...all day on Saturday
(but it was absolutely lovely...we do like an all day rain from time to time)

It was so rainy...we couldn't get out of the car...

too wet, too muddy

The outside around the cottage needs finishing touches

I can happily say, though...

the cottage itself is finished

The appliances are coming this week

and the potager garden needs laying out with the design I worked on

By December, the Lord willing, we should be transfering items from our current home to the cottage
