Where we buy our fish
He's Here...!
Come with us down the bush land on Pilgrim's Farm and meet the new baby
all shiny and new...
cute as a button with saucer eyes and looking much like mama...
all shiny and new...
cute as a button with saucer eyes and looking much like mama...
this tiny bull arrived September 24 in the wee hours of dawn...
just before we were up
Ms. Ruthie Moo-Moo very quietly gave birth to our first farm-born calf
at first, he seemed unable to nurse...
until my husband encouraged his sucking reflex by putting his finger in the calf's mouth
it seems to have worked
he is doing quite well now and we hope he continues to do so

Eggshells...
Our chickens are range free and that means...
nutritious eggs, both inside and out
which means, I don't like to throw out the eggshells
there are 3 ways I use my eggshells
1. crushed up fine and mixed into my chickens' supplemental feed, in particular, for the egg laying hens
2. crushed up into a powder and put into my dogs' food - they need their calcium also
3. crushed and put directly around my plants or infused along with weeds and grass for fertilizer
when infusing the eggshells with weeds and plant cuttings...
I let it steep for a few days in water...
to draw out the nutritional properties of both eggshells and plant cuttings
eggshell tea for my plants
my dogs and chickens like drinking it, too
when I do infuse fertilizer tea with plants, I'm careful not to put in things the animals won't eat
they seem to know what is toxic to them
my lemon balm plants seem to like eggshell tea quite well
May your day or night be infused in the grace of the Lord.

Breakfast...
We don't eat conventional breakfasts here on Pilgrim's Farm
we eat what the Lord provides us with in His blessings on the farm
we also believe eating what we grow is healthier and tastes so much better than...
processed, boxed, fast products loaded with sugars and chemicals which...
we really find hard to call food
our bodies were created by God to digest and absorb food nutrients from the ground...
not products manufactured with added synthetic "vitamins" and "minerals"
and these days, one really doesn't know what is in these "food" products
on our plate for the morning breakfast is...
cucumber, avocado, boiled ripe plantain, and scrambled eggs with the works
that meal takes us all the way into a late afternoon dinner...
with fruit in between times
the bounty of the Lord is indeed very good
There is nothing better for a man,
than that he should eat and drink,
and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour.
This also I saw,
that it was from the hand of God.
Ecclesiastes 2:24
May the Lord bless your day or night with the bounty of His grace.

Hiding It...
Look closely...
and you'll see what I'm hiding
it's big, black and holds over 400 gallons of water
a rain barrel that catches the water for our garden...
and sits comfortably at the corner behind the cottage
it holds no real appeal to the eye...
just precious water for my kitchen crops
I planted a purple trumpet vine almost a year ago
and it grew like a weed
covering the top of my potting area net covering
and has made it's way towards the rain barrel...
reaching out with it's tendrils, grasping the top and sides
and is now starting to give the barrel a pretty covering
so I'm not reminded always that the big tank is there
this vine flowers often
and now I don't mind the tank so much because...
these blooms have flower power
May the Lord bloom your day or night with His grace.

His Tender Rains...
During the night, the Lord looked down and saw...
our need for some rain on our little island
He opened up the heavens above Pilgrim's Farm and watered our gardens for us
at first, He brought the rains down fast and hard, and along with that rain...
God sent His thunder and lightening to remind us that He is still in charge
then, after a little time...
He withdrew His thunder and lightening...
and sent a soft, gentler rain to remind us of His love and mercy
and our gardens were quenched of their thirst
and the Lord said,
Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak;
and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
My doctrine shall drop as the rain,
my speech shall distil as the dew,
as the small rain upon the tender herb,
and as the showers upon the grass:
Because I will publish the name of the Lord:
ascribe ye greatness onto the Lord.
Deuteronomy 32:1-3
May the Lord rain His mercies and grace on you.

Moving Kimi...
This little lizard wishes you a good morning...
and a big welcome to new followers and visitors!
I do believe he is ready to move this wheelbarrow in anticipation of more garden work
as for Kimi...
she had decided the basket in the laundry room would do just fine as a brooding station
not so, Kimi
I have learned that when a brooding hen takes up her position in a most inconvenient place...
it really is not so hard to convince her to put her station where it belongs
all that I needed to do...
was pick up Kimi and her basket, lock, stock and barrel to the coop...
and once she got up for a "break"...
I replaced the small basket with a roomier basket and...
carefully put the eggs in their same position in the new nest...
she didn't a miss beat and simply got back on her eggs
I hung some old towels around her from the coop rafters...
to give her a safer and more private atmosphere
she rewarded us with a sweet puffball a couple of weeks later...
the second egg was a "dud"
if you find your hen brooding where she ought not...
just wait till she gets up for her break...
put the eggs in a basket and when she gets back on the eggs...
(make sure you wait till she gets back on the eggs before moving them)...
pick it all up and put it where you want
or, you can just pick her and the eggs up if you don't mind the angry pecking and...
sit her in the basket and put the eggs in and then move her
as long as she has her eggs, she should be happy
after every break, Kimi always went back to her new station with no problem
if your hen goes back to the old brooding station...
just move her again until she stays put in her proper station
"Sunny", I believe, looks like a good name for this puffball
May your day or night be blessed in God's grace.

New Garden Coming...
The chickens are having the last of their scratch and peck days in the new garden area
now that they have fortified the soil with their blessings of back end enrichments
my husband is busy getting the chicken wire up and the boxes built...
and then, he will put a covering on top to protect the plants from too much rain
the rains here tend to be a bit much for some of the more delicate plants during rainy season
he let me go ahead after preparing the first box to put in the first tomato seedlings
I surely am looking forward to sowing some of my favorite greens
my cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce, carrot seeds are all jumping in their packets...
ready to go
But He (Jesus) answered and said,
Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted,
shall be rooted up
Matthew 15:13
Those that be planted in the house of the Lord
shall flourish in the courts of our God
Psalm 92:13
May it be, you are graced by the Lord as one of His plants.

Who's the Big Kahuna...?
We all know on Pilgrim's Farm who the big Kahuna really is
Big Red, who stands in the forefront, lets us all know...
young roosters just ain't it
he keeps his eye on those young roos who think they are up and coming
and when there are more than one rooster on the farm...
someone has to be the boss
it doesn't matter if these up and coming young roos are the boss's offspring
they really ought to know their place and station on the farm...
according to Big Red Kahuna
yep, the young roos do keep their respectful distance
and give their big daddy all the room he wants
whispers Black Beard to Blue...
"hey, you think we'll have to sneak through the gate when daddy Big Red isn't looking?"
hmmm...think they can do it?
For the Lord your God is God of gods,
and Lord of Lords,
a great God, a mighty, and a terrible,
which regardeth not persons,
nor taketh reward
Deuteronomy 10:17
May your day or night be graced by the Lord.
